LAB
(method)
At a shooting day I have a fixed shotlist. But for ‘The Living Dead’, I wanted to try another method with the cameraman & dancer. At the start of that day, I showed clips of a Cotard patient who loses the control of her body. We talked about the experience in our bodies while we watched it and how we imagine this feels. During that day we kept searching for this sensation in our shots. It was inspiring, because we all searched instead of executing a shotlist to create an illustration of cotard

18-10-2019 Imagine Science filmfestival (New York). I was one of the 6 filmmakers that was paired with a scientist to create a short film in a week. My main reason to participate was to test methods to co-create with a scientist rather than only gather knowledge and visualize their research. I didn’t come with a fixed script, but wanted to find common grounds and questions in our research. This approach worked and I want to develop this further for ‘The Living dead’. Password: symbiosis

For the project "The Living Dead", I wrote a proposal in which I tested how I could write a proposal with a clear context but still enough room for experimentation. An important tool I want to use are venues where (elements) of the installation could be tested during the development

The Dutch Institute for vision & sound invited me to create a short piece of 30sec with their black & white archive collection. They send me material from their archive on body & the self. I wanted to challenge myself and start without writing, thinking about a concept or collaborating with anyone. Just create from the material and see where it leads. It helped me to rethink how I can use commissioned work for the development of the visual aspect of my own projects.

Central in the 3th semester was to experiment with:
-
New working methods
-
Testing a different approach to collaboration
-
Specify what I mean with a lab
-
Use the results to prepare first session for the lab.
As an external mentor I consulted twice with Maartje Nevejan and observed two of het collaborations. I will continue to work with her during the 4th semester focussing on methods to collaborate.
The first 2 semesters I focussed on:
-
Which methods I used in my artistic practice so far
-
What my films and immersive installations have in common
-
Experimenting
-
Position my interestes & research
In the 4th semester I will use the Multi-sensory installation 'The Living Dead' as a test case for my research to experiment with an embodied experience.
